1947–1950
The beginnings
In 1947, Walter Huttenlocher established our company by setting up a wholesale business specialising in medical glass. From the outset, our focus has been on providing a personalised customer service. In particular, we visited pharmacies directly by car to sell glass bottles from the boot, given their high demand for medical glass. This customer-centric approach and flexible service continue to characterise our company to this day.
1950–1970
Growth through innovation
The construction of our new company building in Neckartailfingen laid the foundation for our sustainable growth over the past two decades. At the same time, we consistently expanded our product portfolio, adding plastic packaging to our established range of glass products and entering the chemical industry to gain new business areas. This strategic diversification established us as a versatile partner for sophisticated packaging solutions.
1970–1980
Development into a group
During this phase, our company evolved into a holding company comprising a group of companies. The cosmetics industry was quickly established in our portfolio and developed into a business area on a par with the medical industry. This broad positioning allowed us to apply our expertise across industries, thereby strengthening our long-term market position.
1980–1990
Establishing in-house production
The integration of plastic canisters into our product range, alongside the acquisition of Plastikpack GmbH, founded in 1962 and based in Bökendorf, marked a strategic milestone for us. In addition to our established trading business, we now have a second pillar in the form of plastics processing production. Expanding our manufacturing capacity for plastic canisters at our production site in Mühlbach has enabled us to offer our customers even more comprehensive solutions.
1990–2000
International presence and circular economy
This decade was marked by the expansion of our canister production, with the opening of a new site in France and a focus on the Bökendorf plant. Our initial investment in Recyclen GmbH, followed by its subsequent takeover, was a forward-looking move that enabled us to establish a circular economy for plastics at an early stage. At the same time, we expanded our product range to include plastic pallets, load carriers and innovative airless packaging for primary packaging.
2000–2010
Investment in state-of-the-art technology
This phase was characterised by significant investment in machinery and the construction of a cutting-edge production facility in Steinheim-Bergheim, approximately 25 kilometres from our Bökendorf site. We also increased capacity at our French site. These investments enabled us to meet rising quality requirements and increase our production capacity in a sustainable manner.
2010–2020
Focus on refinement
At our headquarters in Neckartailfingen, we are increasingly focusing on refining primary packaging materials. By demolishing and rebuilding production areas, we have created the infrastructure necessary for state-of-the-art technologies. Our proven ceramic screen printing process has been supplemented by pioneering UV printing machines. At the same time, we have expanded our range of canisters to include grip bottles and special containers, which are a useful addition to our established range of stackable canisters.
2020–heute
Sustainability with responsibility
Renaming the company to 'Wandel Packaging Group Blow Moulding' and 'Wandel Packaging Group Recyclen' highlights our ongoing commitment to providing sustainable packaging solutions. By expanding our German location, we are creating space for further growth. Our re-line product series, which is made from recycled materials and has hazardous goods approval, is a particular success – combining ecological responsibility with the highest safety standards, it shows how sustainability and quality go hand in hand.
